Since 2014, this event is hosted in memory of Ashley Katzen's mother who lost her battle to pancreatic cancer at age 54 and Danyelle Shapiro’s father who lost his life to lung cancer at age 41. The collaboration between the two was sparked by the impact cancer has had on their lives and the grim survival statistics for each disease. Their personal message is simple yet passionate, “Awareness is hope, and hope never quits!”
After losing her mom to pancreatic cancer in 2011, Ashley quickly became an advocate in the fight against pancreatic cancer. She originally launched a personal awareness campaign in 2010 named ‘Team Hope’ and her events since have collectively raised over half a million dollars to fund crucial programs benefiting the pancreatic cancer community. As an honorary ambassador for the Hirshberg Foundation, Ashley stays abreast of new pancreatic cancer initiatives to continue being educated on the advancements of this disease. Through Purple & White Fight Night she continues to promote awareness through social media and rallies community support.
Danyelle lost her father to lung cancer when she was only eight years old. As Danyelle got older she knew that she wanted to be an advocate to fight back against one of the most deadly diseases that took her father from her at such a young age. As a representative of the Lung Cancer Research Foundation, Danyelle has secured hundreds of thousands of dollars to fund vigorous efforts towards the advancement of cancer research. With Purple and White Fight Night, her goal is to spread awareness and raise enough funds to find a cure.
50% of the proceeds raised from Purple and White Fight Night will be donated directly to the Hirshberg Foundation which invests 85 cents of every dollar raised on medical and scientific research.
